Gym Class Heroes is an American indie hip hop band from Geneva, New York. The band became known worldwide in 2007 by the success of the single Cupid's chokehold.
The band was formed in 1997 when singer Travis McCoy and drummer Matt McGinley became friends and started looking for other band members. The big success came only 10 years later, when "Cupid's Chokehold" reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single was later released in the Netherlands, and also reached the top 10 there. On May 9, 2007 they gave their first performance in the Netherlands in the club Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. This was a showcase that the site Hyves had organized. In July 2007 they played at the DOUR festival in Belgium.
In September 2008, the album The Quilt out, with the lead single "Cookie Jar" with The-Dream. The band worked on the album with their friend Patrick Stump, Cool & Dre and The-Dream.
